The Cork Sports Badminton Programme:
The Cork Sports Partnership has joined forces with Badminton Ireland to deliver a Badminton Basics Programme to 10 schools throughout Cork.
The 10 schools taking part in the badminton basics programme are:
- Ballincollig Community School
- Beara Community School
- Coachford College, Coachford
- Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig
- Glanmire Community College
- Pobailscoil na Trionoide, Youghal
- St. Mary’s Secondary school, Macroom
- St. Mary’s Secondary school, Mallow
- St. Aloysius’College, Carrigtwohill
- St. Mary`s High School, Midleton
The Sports Partnership have funded the programme which is aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in Badminton on a coaching and participation capacity.
It focuses on enabling young people to get early coaching experience, and in doing so, passing on their basic knowledge to younger players within their school. The Badminton Basics programme is specifically designed to enable Transition Year Students and teachers to deliver basic badminton skills and to organise structured games/competitions 1st - 2nd Year Students within their own schools or even to local primary school students upon completion of the course.
The programme includes:
- 6-hour Badminton Basics coaching course for Transition Year students and PE Teachers which will be held in each school up to a maximum of 30 per class. This course should take place over one 6-hour session or two 3-hour sessions.
- Badminton Basics Handbook and Coaching DVD x 5 per class
- Support and advice from Badminton Ireland Development Officers in implementing the Badminton Basics Programme in each school
