Development Officer Report
August/September 2009 Update
Wicklow, Westmeath, Dublin, Meath and Louth
Clubs
Welcome Back! It is hard to believe that the summer months are now behind us, that means only one thing the New Badminton Season is about to commence.
At this point you should have received your Badminton Ireland Affiliation Packs in the post. If your club has not yet received your pack then please do not hesitate to contact me and I will send it on. I would encourage you to get the affiliations and list of registered players in as soon as possible.
As I mentioned in the last update I have been working on a number of key areas for development for the coming season; Juvenile Club Initiative, Back to Badminton and Club-School Links.
One area that we have been working on is in relation to encouraging Adult Clubs to look at the possibility of setting up a Juvenile Club. Badminton Ireland is looking to support clubs who may wish to develop a Juvenile Club. This will be achieved through our new Juvenile Club Initiative which has been supported by the Women in Sport Initiative. As part of this initiative I have a target of supporting 3 Adult Clubs in the development of a sustainable juvenile club. This means I will be able to invest time and resources in the club in the following way;
Support of Development Officer
- Drawing up a club development plan
- Training Workshops; club management, development, funding and fundraising
Resources
- Club Development Manual
- Badminton Basics Handbook and DVD
- Introduction to Badminton Coaching Manual
Introduction to Badminton Coaching Course
- Subsidy to Club Leaders 50% discount
Level 1 Coaching Course
- Subsidy to Club Leader 50% discount
Working with Clubs to build positive relationship with Local Sports Partnership
Code of Ethics Workshop
- Development Officer will liaise with LSP and notify club of dates
Sourcing of Equipment
If you would like your club to be considered for this initiative then contact me for an application. Please also remember that the resources offered above are only available for a limited number of clubs per development officer. So should your club wish to avail of this Juvenile Club Initiative please do not hesitate to contact me.
Badminton Ireland and the Leinster Branch are continually striving to promote the game of badminton encouraging people to pick a racket and join your local club. Over the coming months we are trying to promote the idea of getting Back to Badminton. There are a great number of people who once played badminton and we would like to encourage them to come back to the game. So perhaps you might consider running a Back to Badminton open night in your club. We are also hoping to run a Welcome Back to Badminton blitz in November for all those people who have dusted the cobwebs off that racket and come back to the sport. The date, time and venue of the blitz has yet to be confirmed.
This season we would also like to encourage clubs to establish a Club-School Link. Remember the future of your club lies in its ability to constantly develop and grow. So why not create a partnership between you and your local schools. See Club-School Link guidelines to see how you might do this.
As your development officer I am here to assist you in any way I can. If you need any help or support from me over the coming season please to not hesitate to contact me. I would be delighted to hear from you.
I hope that you have a wonderful Badminton Season and I very much look forward to seeing and meeting with you over the coming months.
Rachel
