2011/12 U15 Irish TEAM Selection Policy
  1. 1.      Policy Objectives

 

  • To select a team of boys and girls to represent Ireland at the U15 Quadrangular.
  • To select players that are capable of competing at International level.
  • To select players that have the potential and motivation to succeed in the long-term.

 

 

  1. 2.       PLAYERS ELIGIBILITY

In order for players to be selected they must meet the following:

 

  • Be an affiliated member of and in good standing with BADMINTON Ireland
  • Players who were born on or after 1st January 1997.
  • Hold a passport of a country whose territory BADMINTON Ireland has jurisdiction over
  • Have not represented any other Member Association for three years immediately preceding the date of the fixture or last represented BADMINTON Ireland.
  • Not currently be under disqualification or suspension under the rules of the BWF.

 

 

  1. 3.       PLAYER SELECTION CRITERIA

 

The Selection Panel will select the players that in the Panel’s view are the strongest performing players. In reaching their selection they will consider the following:

 

  • Ulster U15 Open
  • Leinster U15 Open
  • Irish Nationals U15

 

In reaching their selection they may consider the following:

 

  • Results in other Irish and International tournaments
  • Commitment to training over the most recent twelve months
  • Ability to compete under pressure documented through a fighting and competitive performance in high profiled matches against opponents at same or better standard
  • Positive documented experience with team competitions
  • Partnership considerations

 

Should the Panel decide to select players for player development, the selection panel may consider:

  • Other results in domestic and international competition
  • Commitment to training over the most recent twelve months
  • Talent as judged by the National Coaches
  • Potential for future Olympic level achievements
  • Head to Head results against other Irish players in International tournaments

 

The Panel will endeavour to select a team that can compete with their opponents with an emphasis going on player development for future team competitions.

  1. 5.      Player Availability for preparation and competition
  • Upon selection for the team, the player must confirm their availability for the duration of the competition. A further condition of selection will be the player’s commitment to the preparation process prior to the event.

 

  1. 6.      Overriding factors
  • Should a player with an established record of high-level results become injured and unable to compete in the majority of listed events, the player may be considered for selection based on previous performances subject to passing a suitable fitness test.
  • If an injury occurs to a selected player after nomination they will be required to demonstrate an appropriate level of fitness (as determined by Badminton Ireland) to remain as a selected player.
  • Attendance, behaviour and performance of players will be constantly reviewed through the season and continued selection will be dependent on these factors.
  • If an injury occurs to a selected player after nomination it is possible for a replacement player to be selected if it is in the interests of the team.

 

  1. 7.       APPEAL PROCESS

 

Appeal to the selection may be made in writing to the Chief Executive of BADMINTON Ireland within 72 hours of the notification of the Irish team.

The sole ground for an appeal is that the selection policy was not properly followed.

An appeal must be made in writing with appropriate and sufficient supporting documentation and must be accompanied by a deposit of £50.00, payable to BADMINTON Ireland. If the appeal is upheld the deposit will be refunded in full.

 

Within two working days of receiving the appeal, the Chief Executive (or an appointed deputy) will head a group of three selected people with elite badminton experience (‘Appeal Committee’) that will investigate the issues of the appeal with all involved parties.  No member of the Appeal Committee shall have been involved in the original selection process.

 

The Chief Executive will in writing inform all parties about the Appeal Committee’s decision to either uphold or reject the appeal.

 

In the event that the Appellant does not agree with the decision of the Appeal Panel he or she shall have the right to take the matter to the Sports Dispute Resolution Panel. The Appellant and Association both agree that the decision of the Sports Dispute Resolution Panel shall be final and binding on both the parties and agree that the costs of such arbitration shall be shared equally between the two parties.

 

The  Chief  Executive  will  set  appropriate  deadlines  for  the  process  of  appeals  to  minimize disruptions to the competition.

 

 

  1.  DESELECTION

 

A player selected for the Team may be deselected from the team if the player:

 

•     Has been unable to fully participate in training during a 14-day period prior to the debut of the Championships.

•     Due to illness or injury, in the opinion of the responsible National Coach becomes unable to perform to the required standard. Medical advice may be taken.

•     Demonstrates  a  lack  of  commitment  to  training  requirements  and/  or  tournament preparations.

•     Breaches or fails to fulfill a requirement of the Anti-Doping Policies of BADMINTON Ireland, the Badminton World Federation or other approved agencies.


 

6.  SELECTION PANEL

 

The selection panel will comprise:

Subject to change in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

 

 

 

7.  SELECTION DATE, NOTIFICATION AND ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The selection of the Ireland team for the U17 team will be announced before the end of December.

 

BADMINTON Ireland will notify the players of their selection before 31st December 2011. Any player who might be difficult  to  contact  be  normal  means  during  this  period  should  inform  the  Badminton Ireland in advance of alternative contact details.

 

If a player is not notified personally on that day he/ she can assume that he/ she have not been selected. Should a member of the squads not be notified of selection and has not received a written confirmation of the selected players by the end of December, it is his/ her responsibility to contact the Badminton Ireland to confirm the situation.
