Special Olympics Ireland Games 2010; Team Leinster

Team Leinster had a very successful Ireland Games, bringing home 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, 5 Fourth ribbons and 4 Fifth ribbons, between 7 Athletes who participated in a total of 19 events.

All athletes played to the best of their ability and there were some exciting matches contested, with fair play and sportsmanship shown by all involved. All five regions were represented, with the smallest team from Ulster and the largest team representing the hosts! Connaught and the Eastern region also fielded large teams, which shows that badminton is growing as a Special Olympics sport in Ireland. However, more support is required to continue the steady growth of the sport since it was first introduced to the Irish Special Olympics programme for the World Summer Games which were hosted in Dublin in 2003.

Many thanks to Badmitnon Ireland President Breda Connolly who travelled down to the competition and presented the medals.
